Caltrain late last week announced the completion of the South San Francisco Station improvement project.

The work had been underway since 2017. The project was funded by the city, the San Mateo County Transportation Authority and the Federal Transit Administration for a total $96.6 million. Station upgrades include a fully accessible station with a center-boarding platform; a new pedestrian and bicycle underpass; and updated amenities and efficiency. Plus, the project lays the foundation for Caltrain electrification.

"The completion of this project is truly historic,” said San Mateo County Transportation Authority Chair Karyl Matsumoto in a press release.

Added South San Francisco Mayor Mark Nagales: "The enhancements made to this Caltrain station are a game changer for South San Francisco residents and visitors in terms of connectivity and walkability."
