Starting April 25, Amtrak will add trains to the Keystone service operating between Harrisburg, Philadelphia and New York City in response to an anticipated increase in demand.

Amtrak is increasing trains on the route in coordination with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Currently, Amtrak operates 18 weekday trains between Philadelphia and Harrisburg. Similarly, 14 weekday trains and 10 weekend trains are offered between New York City and Philadelphia.

Once the additional service begins, 24 weekday trains will be offered each day between Philadelphia and Harrisburg, with 14 available on Saturdays and 16 on Sundays. Between New York City and Philadelphia, 20 weekday trains will be offered with 12 on Saturdays and 11 on Sundays.

"After a long period of reduced schedules, PennDOT is pleased that Amtrak has been able to restore more daily trains and is proud to invest in rail service," said PennDOT Deputy Secretary for Multimodal Transportation Jennie Louwerse in a press release.
