The Chicago Transit Authority late last week announced it identified three prequalified teams to submit proposals for the $3.6 billion Red Line extension project.

The teams are FH Paschen, Ragnar Benson, Milhouse and BOWA Joint Venture; Kiewit Infrastructure; and Walsh VINCI Transit Community Partners. The teams will move into the next phase of the competitive procurement process, with proposals due in early 2024 and selection expected by year's end, CTA officials said in a press release.

CTA expects to begin major construction in late 2025 depending on securing full project funding, they added.

The final request for proposals will include workforce goals and require significant participation by disadvantaged business enterprise-certified firms from underrepresented communities and economically disadvantaged areas.

The project calls for extending the line 5.6 miles into the city's South Side from the existing southern terminal at 95th Street to 130th Street and adding four new, fully accessible stations. In addition, a rail-car storage yard and maintenance facility will be constructed for the line.
