The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) recently unveiled the top statistics of 2023 for New York City Transit (NYCT), Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Metro-North Railroad.
The busiest subway line was the No. 6 train, which is on track to carry 140 million passengers this year, more than the LIRR and Metro-North combined. The numbers are based on statistics from Jan. 1 through November 2023.
Meanwhile, on the LIRR (excluding sales from Penn, Grand Central Madison and Jamaica stations):• Bayside Station sold the most city tickets, with 242,000 sales;• Ronkonkoma Station sold the most off-peak tickets, with 656,000 sales;• Hicksville Station sold the most monthly tickets, with 23,000 sales;• the Babylon Branch sold the most monthly tickets, with 120,000 sales; and• the Huntington/Port Jefferson Branch recorded the highest ridership, with 10.8 million trips.
On the Metro-North (excluding sales from Grand Central Terminal):• Stamford Station sold the most monthly tickets, with 18,379 sales;• Fordham sold the most city tickets, with 301,905 sales;• Harlem-125th Street sold the most off-peak tickets, with 576,590 sales; and• New Haven Line recorded the most ridership, with 26.1 million trips.
