The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) have released the final environmental impact statement/environmental impact report (EIS/EIR) for the Southeast Gateway Line, formerly known as the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor project.
The EIS/EIR evaluates the project from multiple perspectives, including its historical background, potential environmental effects and importance for communities throughout Los Angeles County. It also evaluates the L.A. Metro-board selected route and other alternatives.
The proposed light-rail line would span 14.5 miles from the Slauson/A Line Station in Florence-Firestone in Los Angeles to the future Pioneer Station in Artesia, California.
The report contains extensive analysis on transportation connections and strategies to reduce traffic congestion and advance fairness and environmental responsibility. The EIS/EIR is available here.
In the coming months, L.A. Metro's board will consider certifying the final EIR. The FTA expects to issue a record of decision this summer, which would enable L.A. Metro to move forward with design, acquisitions and construction following a mandatory 30-day waiting period.
