The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) has appointed Patrick Preusser chief operating officer. He succeeds Cherryl Beveridge, who is retiring June 28 after a 45-year career with the UTA.

Preusser will oversee rail, bus, special services, maintenance, fleet engineering and police, representing about 80% of the UTA's workforce.

Preusser has more than 27 years of experience in the federal, municipal and private transit sectors. Before joining the UTA, he served as the director of rapid transit in Honolulu and executive director of transportation in Portland, Oregon. Preusser also has held various leadership roles at the Saudi Railway Co., Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and U.S. Department of Transportation. He began his transportation career at the Norfolk Southern Railway as a locomotive engineer.

“Patrick Preusser is a seasoned transit leader who is primed to lead operations into an exciting innovative chapter of growth and service,” said UTA Executive Director Jay Fox. “His extensive experience across all transit modes and his passion for connecting communities make him the ideal candidate to lead our operations as we move forward.”

Meanwhile, the UTA is planning an extension of FrontRunner commuter-rail service from Provo to Payson, with new stations in Springville, Spanish Fork and Payson. A public information meeting is slated for June 12 to share details on the environmental review, proposed station locations and project schedule, UTA officials said on Instagram. The meeting will be held at Springville Civic Center. More information is available at frontrunnersouthextension.com.
