VIA Rail unveils exterior design for Lumi train

VIA Rail Canada Inc. recently unveiled a new exterior design for one of its new Quebec City-Windsor corridor trains.

The Lumi train bears VIA Rail's traditional monochrome yellow while keeping the linear lines of the new trains, according to a VIA Rail news release.

"Simple and efficient, the monochrome yellow, our brand's signature color, is a bold brand play that will stand out in the Canadian landscape," said Brigitte Dagnault, VIA Rail's chief communications and marketing officer.

Lumi will be the only new train with this exterior design and was designed as a reminder of the beginning of a “new era for passenger rail,” VIA Rail officials said. The railroad evaluated several design options to combine a nod to the past and a look to the future. 

Short for luminosity, “Lumi” will be in service by Aug. 31. Like VIA Rail's other new trains, a series of tests need to be performed before the Lumi trains enter service.
