Crews have broken ground on the future Ontario Line connection at the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) Pape Station.

Following the completion of prep work to clear the site for major construction, teams are installing foundational supports to reinforce the soil and prepare for excavation, Metrolinx officials said in a news release.

Construction is underway on the Ontario Line, a more than 10-mile subway line designed to make it faster and easier to travel within Toronto and beyond. Featuring 15 new stations, the line will run from Exhibition Place through the heart of downtown Toronto.

Crews are preparing for excavation at all downtown station sites by installing new support walls. In the east end, major bridge work is underway along the existing above-ground rail corridor where the Ontario Line will run, and sites are being cleared to prepare for future major construction in the north end.

During rush hours, Pape Station is expected to serve 10,200 riders and facilitate 9,100 transfers between the Ontario Line, Line 2 subway service and bus routes.
