RTD-Denver lifts speed restrictions as it completes light-rail repairs

The Regional Transportation District-Denver (RTD) has removed all speed restrictions between the Arapahoe at Village Center and Dry Creek stations along the city's Southeast Light-Rail Corridor.

E and R light-rail trains have resumed normal speeds in both directions along this section. The northbound speed restrictions were previously lifted in June, RTD officials said in a news release.

In May, the agency began a more robust inspection process of its light-rail system to identify preventative maintenance issues that may need to be addressed, RTD officials said. As areas along the rail alignment were identified for maintenance, speed restrictions were implemented until crews completed necessary repairs.

To date, about half of the 10 mph speed restrictions initially issued by RTD have been removed. The remaining restrictions will continue to be lifted as track repairs are completed. The speed restrictions are currently causing moderate end-to-end trip delays for customers, and the impact to specific train schedules is dependent on the length of the slow zone, RTD officials said.

Overnight preventative maintenance and track repair efforts continue to make progress along the Southeast corridor.
