The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has awarded its Outstanding Public Transportation System Award to the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) for excellence and for serving as a role model for other North American transit agencies.
APTA considered transit agencies’ infrastructure development, technology and innovation, sustainability programs, equity, customer service and community engagement as selection criteria for the award, MARTA officials said in a press release.
“To be recognized like this by our peers working in transit throughout North America is truly an honor and a recognition of the outstanding work our 5,000 employees do every day,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Collie Greenwood. “What this award demonstrates to me is that this focus on people is paying off at MARTA.”
As MARTA undertakes its most significant expansion since train service began nearly 45 years ago, the agency continues to introduce innovative and customer-focused programs across multiple areas of operation, MATRA officials said in a press release.
APTA recognized MARTA as the Outstanding Public Transportation System among agencies that log more than 50 million annual passenger trips.
