The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) recorded its 21st consecutive month of year-over-year ridership growth in August, with rail ridership reaching an 81.3% recovery of August 2019 pre-pandemic ridership levels, the agency reported yesterday.
Total rail boardings in August were 5,918,588, a 2.5% increase over August 2023. Weekday rail boardings were 4,517,656, reaching 76.6% of August 2019 boardings.
August also was the second month that the L.A. Metro tracked ridership for year-over-year comparisons of the A and E light rail lines. A Line August ridership grew 15.6% over 2023 and surpassed the B Line as the busiest rail line in the system, while the E Line grew 10.1%.
Weekend rail ridership in August surpassed its August 2019 pre-pandemic ridership by 1.27%. More people are using both rail and other L.A. Metro transits to get to and from large events and entertainment in the county, the authority said in the press release.
