The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) yesterday announced that the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) awarded the agency a $231 million grant for its 14.5-mile Southeast Gateway light-rail line.
L.A. Metro received the grant after a competitive process for funding under CalSTA's Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program.
When completed, the Southeast Gateway Line will operate from the Slauson A Line station in Los Angeles to Artesia, California, and will include nine stations. The line will pass through 11 cities, L.A. Metro officials said in a press release.
The line also will include a new C Line station at Interstate 105. The area is home to over 600,000 jobs, and is projected to increase to over 700,000 jobs by 2042.
The Southeast Gateway Line will provide connection for residents in southeast LA County to Los Angeles, Metro C Line, A Line and county’s broader regional transit network.
"For too long, Angelenos in southeast LA County have been disconnected from Metro’s rail system, but with these additional funds, we move closer to giving Southeast L.A. and Gateway City residents a world-class light-rail line to serve this growing area of our county," said L.A. Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins.
