advertisement
Bombardier Transportation recently received a $466 million order from Deutsche Bahn AG for 298 double-deck cars.
Bombardier will build 220 middle cars and 78 steering cars for Deutsche Bahn at its Gorlitz, Germany, plant. With this contract, Deutsche Bahn has ordered more than 1,300 double-deck cars from Bombardier, and plans to put the latest series in service on the German Lander line, traveling from Schleswig-Holstein to Bavaria.
The cars feature air conditioning and multi-purpose areas. All of the steering cars and 94 of the middle cars will be built with a low-floor entrance. Some cars will include passenger-information systems offering real-time information about stops and transfer points, entertainment programs and advertising.
The contract includes an option for an additional 300 cars. The cars are scheduled to be delivered between 2004 and 2006.
