For the third-straight year, Tri-Country Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (Tri-Met) has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the Interstate MAX light-rail extension under a Full Funding Grant Agreement.

Tri-Met plans to use the $69 million grant to purchase light-rail electric propulsion cars, signage and traction power equipment; construct line equipment; renovate the Ruby Junction administration and maintenance facility; complete final design; acquire property; and administer programs.

The 5.8-mile extension would travel from Portland, Ore.’s Rose Quarter to the exposition center. New Starts funding is expected to cover $257.5 million of the project’s $350 million cost.
