Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp. (Metra) recently dedicated two new stations.



The $5 million Tinley Park Station was rebuilt to feature a fully enclosed 3,800-square-foot warming house, and outdoor canopy with heat lamps and large windows. Station amenities include a coffeehouse, drop-off area, restrooms, bike racks, and benches and chairs to seat 50 people. The facility also includes two 800-foot asphalt platforms, antique lighting and a stone embankment.



Funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Tinley Park and Metra, the station was built 300 feet east of the previous site.



Metra also dedicated the Great Lakes Station in North Chicago, on the agency’s Union Pacific North Line. The $3.4 million, 3,400-square-foot brick and stone depot includes 89 parking spaces, improved road access and two new platforms.



Funded by IDOT, Federal Transit Administration and Metra, the station also features a drop-off lane, retail space and ticket booth.



Metra plans to build another 100-space parking lot at the station during the next year.
