Computer-based training: BART provides online courses

Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) recently selected software developer Pathlore’s learning-management system (LMS) to deliver, track and report on corporate training for up to 3,500 BART employees.

With the system, BART can generate reports that show employees have met mandated safety training criteria. At an online "student learning center," employees can decide which courses they need to take and when to take them, and can track their progress. The LMS also enables BART to schedule courses, keep tabs on when employees’ professional certifications must be obtained or renewed and automate course registrations.

"[The system] allow us to ensure employee skills training is up to date and increase the speed with which we provide that training," said Supervisor for Technology-Based Training Karen Arhontes in a prepared statement.

BART plans to use the LMS to train maintenance and frontline workers and, eventually, new employees.

Other public transportation agencies using Pathlore’s LMS include Toronto Transit Commission and Utah Transit Authority.
