advertisement
A high-speed Talgo train traveling between Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, recently was clocked at 157.5 mph, according to a prepared statement issued Nov. 15 by Voith Turbo GmbH & Co. KG, which supplied the diesel engine's turbo transmission.
The high-speed train enables passengers to travel the Madrid-Barcelona route in less than two-and-a-half hours.
The train features "power cars" at either end; the lightweight cars were designed by Patentes Talgo S.A. and Siemens. Each car is equipped with a 1,500-kW, 12-cylinder diesel engine, which drives the turbo transmission through a cardan shaft.
