Metra plans another southern commuter-rail line

On Feb. 14, Northeast Regional Commuter Railroad Corp. (Metra) announced plans to add another commuter-rail line to improve transportation to Chicago’s south suburbs.

The proposed line would run from Crete, in south suburban Will County, to the downtown LaSalle Street Station, with potential stops in Dolton, South Holland, Thornton, Glenwood, Chicago Heights, South Chicago Heights and Steger.

Metra plans to request $500 million for the project in the next federal transportation authorization bill.

The commuter-rail line is one of five projects Metra plans to complete as one total package — including a $1.1 billion, 55-mile STAR Line, and three core capacity projects totaling $530 million — according to a prepared statement.
