On Jan. 20, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) named Bennie Smith Jr. vice president of capital construction.

Smith will oversee CTA's $2.5 billion capital construction program, and ensure that more than 70 ongoing capital projects are completed on time and within budget.

He most recently served Motorola Corp. as director of strategy and operations, global relations resources organization. Smith previously served in various capacities for Northern Telecom, the state of Massachusetts’ Office of Environmental Affairs, First National Bank of Boston, Allstate Insurance Co. and Ada S. McKinley Community Services.

"His experience in the public and private sector will prove invaluable to the CTA in managing current projects, such as the Cermak (Douglas) Blue Line rehabilitation and, as we move ahead, with the Brown Line capacity expansion project," said CTA President Frank Kruesi in a prepared statement.
