GO Transit begins to build third track on Lakeshore West corridor

Last week, Toronto’s GO Transit launched construction on a Lakeshore West Rail Corridor expansion project. The agency will add a third mainline track between Mississauga and Oakville, and extend platforms at the Oakville, Port Credit and Clarkson stations to accommodate 12-car trains.

The $88 million Lakeshore West project is part of the GO Transit Rail Improvement Program (GO TRIP), a billion-dollar expansion program funded by the governments of Canada and Ontario, and local municipalities.

GO Transit’s expansion program includes 12 projects system-wide, such as building underpasses on the Stouffville and Georgetown corridors, and an overpass on the Bradford Corridor to bypass freight traffic; expanding service on the Georgetown North and South corridors; improving stations to accommodate three-track operations on the Lakeshore East Corridor; and upgrading the signal system at Union Station.
