Today marks the 15th anniversary of the Capitol Corridor, which provides intercity passenger-rail service in northern California. The Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) manages the 170-mile route; Amtrak handles day-to-day operations, logistics and maintenance.

During the past year, CCJPA implemented the corridor’s largest-ever service expansion by adding 14 trains, carried its 10 millionth passenger and completed $60 million in track improvement projects between Oakland and San Jose.

Next up for the authority: installing ticket vending machines at all stations, implementing wireless fidelity service, automating the ticket validation process and providing real-time train arrival updates. In addition, CCJPA expects to obtain funds from a bond measure approved by voters last month to help increase capacity, improve reliability and reduce travel times.
