WMATA to power up Branch Avenue Rail Yard

advertisement

With construction of its Branch Avenue Rail Yard on schedule to be complete by the end of October, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority officials plan in mid-October to electrify the third rail so that cars may be stored and serviced when the yard goes into full operation in November.

The 38-acre yard will have the capacity to store 178 rail cars and include a car wash building for exterior cleaning, an eight-car capacity maintenance building for car inspections and minor repairs, and an operations and maintenance building, which would provide space for interior car cleaning and maintenance.
