advertisement
Mitsubishi Electric (MELCO) Nov. 27 awarded ALSTOM a $15 million contract to design, supply and test traction equipment for rolling stock to be used for the Delhi metro, which is under construction.
Under contract terms, ALSTOM will provide high-voltage transformers, earthing switches, vacuum circuit breakers, high-speed circuit breakers and contactors. ALSTOM also will supply MELCO-designed traction motors, AC control cases, inverter cases, converter/inverter cases and auxiliary converter cases.
The contract comes on the heels of another for the same project: Delhi Metro Rail Corp. in May awarded an ALSTOM-led consortium a contract to design and supply an integrated automatic train control, signaling and telecommunication system. Consortium partners include Alcatel Portugal S.A. and Sumitomo Corp.
The traction equipment is scheduled to be delivered from February 2002 through November 2004; testing will be conducted in India.
