ALSTOM Transport recently inked airport railway deals in Greece and Korea valued at $283 million, the company announced Aug. 27.

ERGOS, a subsidiary of the National Greek Railways, awarded ALSTOM and its Greek consortium partners a $319 million contract to supply and construct the electrical and mechanical components of a 18.6-mile suburban line between Athens’ city center and a new airport in Spata. A 6.2-mile segment of existing rail between the city center and city limits will be renovated; the remainder will be built between the city limits and airport.

Of the total, ALSTOM will receive $131 million and be responsible for turnkey project management and design engineering. ALSTOM also will supply the substations, signaling, catenary and track.

As part of the agreement, ALSTOM will supply a European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), which incorporates the company’s ATLAS™ system for signaling, train control and traffic management, as well as provide the on-board equipment, interlockings, track-side equipment, control center and SCADA.

Meanwhile, Korea’s Incheon International Airport Railroad Co. Ltd. awarded ALSTOM (as a member of the IKFC consortium) a contract for the project management and equipment supply for a new airport railway link between Incheon and Seoul. For its portion, ALSTOM will receive $152 million of the contract’s $391 million total.

Both direct and commuter transit services are planned along the 37.2-mile route, which also will include a connection to the Seoul-Pusan national high-speed rail line.

Korean consortium partner Rotem will supply the rolling stock.

Service on the line is scheduled to begin at the end of 2005.
