APTA: Most Americans support public transit investments

Nearly 70 percent of respondents in a post-election poll showed support for investments to repair and improve public transit infrastructure, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) announced late last week.

What's more, 65 percent of those who voted for President-elect Donald Trump also supported greater investment in public transit, APTA officials said in a press release.

Polling company Heart+Mind Strategies conducted the online survey, which involved 1,003 respondents. The company carried out the survey Nov. 11.

In addition, 81 percent of Trump voters opposed cuts to current levels of public transportation investment.

"While Americans may be divided on the overall direction of our country, we know this much: Voters for both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump support public transportation," said APTA's Acting President and Chief Executive Officer Richard White. "Americans understand that investment in public transportation creates jobs and that public transportation will produce greater economic growth for our local communities."
