Alaska Railroad Corp. (ARRC) recently opened a new station at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.
A charter train is scheduled to travel between Seward and the airport from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. five days a week, including weekend days. ARRC plans to build line extensions and add trains gradually as demand grows.
Federal Railroad Administration provided $28 million in capital funds for the track work, two new bridges and the station.
ARRC also has implemented a public information program to promote safety awareness along the airport spur, which hasn’t been in service since 1997.
