Alaska Railroad opens state fair intermodal facility

advertisement

Yesterday, Alaska Railroad Corp. (ARRC) and the Alaska State Fair Inc. opened the new Alaska State Fair Intermodal Commuter center.

Located at the state fairgrounds in Palmer, the facility includes a new rail station, restrooms, handicapped parking, access to a new gate and one-way road that will serve as a drop-off lane, enabling motorists to unload passengers without having to pay for parking.

The facility will accommodate passenger trains, buses, shuttle vans, motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Designed to reduce fair traffic congestion, the 10-year project was completed by the Alaska State Fair, ARRC, and the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. ARRC provided project management services.
