Bangkok Metro Company Ltd. announced Sept. 5 that it selected a consortium led by Alstom Transportation to become a partner in the 25-year concession for Bangkok Metro’s Blue Line, and to provide and maintain electrical and mechanical (E&M) equipment for 10 years. Alstom would receive half of Nippon-Euro Subway Consortium’s total $400 million project value.

Alstom plans to handle overall technical E&M supply management, systems integration, signaling system, communication systems and workshop/depot equipment. Alstom also plans to supply 21 three-car Metropolis™ train sets, with a option for four additional sets.

The other consortium members, Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Corp., plan to provide traction equipment, power supply and automatic fare collection systems, and platform screen doors.

The Blue Line, designed to run 12.4 miles from Hua Lamphong to Bangsue, is scheduled to begin revenue service in 2004.
