Alstom has signed a $518 million contract extension with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to provide operations and maintenance services for JFK International Airport’s AirTrain light-rail service for the next seven years.

Alstom designed and built the AirTrain, and has been providing operations and maintenance services for it since 2003, Alstom officials said in a press release. The new contract includes a 3-year extension.

The AirTrain connects all airport passenger terminals to airport parking lots, the hotel shuttle pick-up area, rental car center and New York City’s public transit network at Jamaica and Howard Beach stations, which connect passengers to MTA New York City Transit subway, MTA Long Island Rail Road and buses.

Alstom will be responsible for ensuring 24/7 operations and maintaining the 32 automated trains, station doors, guideways, power systems and other facilities.
