Alstom to refurbish 108 additional CTA subway cars
advertisement
Chicago Transit Authority recently awarded Alstom Transportation Inc. a third optional contract to refurbish 108 subway cars. This $60 million deal follows a $169 million December 1997 contract to overhaul 284 subway cars. In all, CTA has awarded Alstom contracts worth $344.6 million to refurbish 598 of the agency’s series 2600 subway cars.
Under terms of the current contract, Alstom will fit the cars with an upgraded propulsion system and advanced cab signal system. Alstom also will install air conditioning, a public address system and improved lighting, as well as add vandal-proof shields to the windows and silicone cleats to reduce long-term wear on the high-voltage cabling under the car.
Alstom plans to deliver 14 cars per month until December 2003.
