Amtrak Pacific Surfliner resumes limited service through San Clemente

Amtrak Pacific Surfliner has resumed limited service through San Clemente, California, as work continues to build a catchment wall at Mariposa Point to protect the rail right of way.
With all 33 steel beams for the wall's foundation in place and Amtrak conducting its own risk analysis, the Orange County Transportation Authority, Metrolink and LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency have agreed that limited Pacific Surfliner service can safely resume to and from San Diego through San Clemente, according to a press release.
Morning trains will pass through San Clemente between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., with evening trains scheduled through the area between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Midday service will not yet resume so construction of the catchment wall can continue.
While the resumption of morning and evening service will reduce the daily work window for construction, the project partners still anticipate completion of the catchment wall later this month. Once the work is completed, full passenger-rail service is expected to resume.
