Yesterday, published reports surfaced saying that Amtrak was in discussion with New Jersey Transit to revive the Access to the Region’s Core tunnel project.
However, those reports appear to be premature.
“We are in talks with New Jersey Transit, but not about reviving the ARC tunnel. We are discussing common projects that may be mutually beneficial, and part of that would be discussing if there’s any use for the work already done on the ARC tunnel,” Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole said yesterday during a phone conversation with Progressive Railroading. “It’s all exploratory, there’s nothing definitive and we haven’t pinpointed one particular project at all.”
