Amtrak added weekend stops at the Newark, Del., station starting Dec. 17. The new schedule includes a southbound stop on Fridays at 3:05 p.m., and northbound stop every Saturday and Sunday at 8:43 p.m.

The station, near the University of Delaware, will benefit from the weekend service to and from the Washington, D.C., area, according to Amtrak.

The Newark station’s ridership has increased to 9,300 passengers in fiscal-year 2010 from 7,883 in FY2008.
