Platform improvement work at Amtrak's Prince station in West Virginia is underway; the $4.5 million project will replace the existing passenger platform and implement upgrades to improve accessibility. Planned upgrades include new lighting, guardrails, accessible parking spaces with ADA-compliant paths to the platform and station building, detectable warning surfaces and updated signage.

The upgrades are part of Amtrak’s nationwide ADA Stations Program, which expands access across the network. Prince station is considered an architectural landmark; the project will preserve the site’s 1940s Art Moderne style with in-kind replacement of components and use of historically compatible fixtures, Amtrak officials said in a press release.

Prince station is served by Amtrak’s Cardinal service and is the main station for much of Fayette County. The station will remain open throughout construction, which is scheduled for completion in summer 2027.
