Amtrak breaks ground on Illinois intermodal facility
advertisement
Amtrak and the town of Normal, Ill., recently broke ground on a multi-modal transportation center.
The 68,000-square-foot facility will serve as a station for Amtrak and motorcoach passengers, as well as local transit buses. The center will include a multi-level parking structure, retail and municipal office space, a community room and a 280-car parking garage.
The $47 million facility is being funded through a combination of bonds issued by Normal and various grants, including a $22 million Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant received in February.
The facility will replace Normal’s current Amtrak station along a Union Pacific Railroad line.
