Amtrak is restoring much of its service along the East Coast after dealing with Hurricane Irene’s aftermath. The national intercity passenger railroad will provide a full Acela Express schedule between Washington, D.C., and Boston, and operate most Northeast Regional trains between Richmond and Lynchburg, Va., Washington and Boston beginning today, Amtrak officials said in a prepared statement.

Engineering teams have completed repairs to restore service after flooding occurred between Philadelphia and New York City. However, residual delays are possible near Trenton, N.J., Amtrak officials said.

In addition, service remains suspended for several routes or segments, including Northeast Regional trains west of Richmond to and from Newport News, Va.; Empire Service trains east of Albany/Rensselaer to and from Buffalo/Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Lake Shore Limited, Chicago-New York/Boston; Cardinal trains east of Indianapolis, to and from Washington/New York City; Maple Leaf trains, east of Niagara Falls to and from Albany/New York; Carolinian trains between New York and Selma-Smithfield, N.C.; Palmetto trains, New York-to-Savannah, Ga.; and Ethan Allen Express trains, New York-to-Rutland, Vt.

Service will resume for the Empire Service between New York City and Albany/Rensselaer; Adirondack between New York and Montreal; and all Keystone Service trains between Harrisburg and Philadelphia. All shuttle trains between New Haven, Conn., and Springfield, Mass., also now will operate.

In addition, service is expected to resume today for the full New York-to-Miami routes of the Silver Star and Silver Meteor, and the full New York-Atlanta-New Orleans route of the Crescent.
