Amtrak Jan. 10 signed a 15-year lease agreement with GPU Telcom Services Inc., under which Amtrak would provide GPU its right-of-way to install 375 miles of fiber optic cable in the Northeast Corridor between New York City and Washington, D.C., and along Amtrak’s Keystone Corridor between Philadelphia and Harrisburg, Pa.

"As Amtrak expands its business through new high-speed rail service linking major Northeast cities, we are happy to lease rights-of-way," said Sally Bellet, Amtrak’s vice president of real estate development, in a prepared statement.

GPU expects to complete Northeast Corridor installation in first-quarter 2001; Keystone Corridor, by year-end.
