Amtrak July 16 named Jonathan Klein chief mechanical officer, responsible for mechanical operations with an emphasis on high-speed rail.
Klein has more than 25 years’ rail experience, including stints at Conrail, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Southern Pacific, and various Boston and Maine railroads.
Most recently, he served as a technical consultant focusing primarily on privatization, contracting and evaluation of transit and railway operations, and rationalizing fleet operations domestically and internationally.
Prior to that, he served Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority as deputy treasurer from 1989 to 1992, and as chief mechanical officer between 1980 and 1985. Between the SEPTA stints, he served Bombardier Corp. as director of customer service.
"Jonathan Klein’s technical expertise, financial discipline and leadership will make an important difference as we work to strengthen Amtrak’s plant and equipment," said E. Stan Bagley, Amtrak chief operating officer, in a prepared statement.
