After recently obtaining Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority’s contract to supply an 800 MHz SMARTNET® trunked radio system, Motorola Inc. announced May 9 that Andrew Corp. will design, supply and install a distributed antenna system including radiating cables, coaxial cables, antennas and the InCell™ fiber optic distributed-antenna system.
In addition to enhancing interdepartmental communication at MARTA, the trunked system is designed to be interoperable, enabling the authority to communicate directly with surrounding public safety agencies throughout metropolitan Atlanta.
"Although we are in a period of cost containment, we will not compromise on issues that will protect the safety and security of our passengers and staff," said MARTA General Manager/Chief Executive Officer Nathaniel Ford in a prepared statement.
Installation is scheduled to begin this summer and conclude in 2004.
