During his state-of-the-city address, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens earlier this week announced plans for four new stations to be built along the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority's (MARTA) rail lines.
The plans include a new station at a redevelopment project called Murphy Crossing, which would connect MARTA trains to the Beltline trail loop for the first time.
Three of the "infill" stations would be built in partnership with MARTA and located throughout the city, although Dickens did not mention specific locations or cost estimates.
"To create healthy, thriving neighborhoods, we must build a transportation system that is accessible to residents across the city," Dickens said, according to a transcript of his remarks. "Our current MARTA rail system is underutilized, in part, because we don’t have enough stations located where our residents need them most."
Combined, the planned projects amount to what would be the largest expansion to MARTA's rail network in decades, Atlanta news media reported.
