The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Cap Metro) in Austin, Texas, registered total ridership of 2.6 million in May, up 11.8 percent from April's total and 11.5 percent from May 2018's mark.

The year-over-year increase is among the highest of transit agencies nationwide, Cap Metro officials said in a press release.

MetroRail ridership rose 3.6 percent in May to 70,800. Systemwide on all modes, weekday ridership climbed 9.8 percent, Saturday ridership climbed 9.9 percent and Sunday ridership ballooned 32.1 percent.

While many factors have contributed to ridership growth of late, improvements implemented since Cap Remap was launched in June 2018 have had the most impact, Cap Metro officials said. Cap Remap changes included tripling the number of MetroBus routes that operate every 15 minutes and adding frequency to weekend service.
