Austin's Capital Metro to hike fares in January

On Wednesday, Capital Metro board members approved a fare adjustment plan that will increase some fares and pass rates, standardize MetroRail and MetroExpress fares, and eliminate most free fares.
To take effect Jan. 16, the fare hike will enable the Austin, Texas, transit provider to offset rising operating costs and “improve the financial sustainability of the agency,” according to a prepared statement.
