BART, SamTrans enter discussions to adjust SFO extension service plan

A little over a week after Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) announced plans to file a lawsuit against San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) to collect funds for their portion of BART’s San Francisco International Airport (SFO) extension, the two agencies reached a temporary agreement.

BART agreed to withhold legal action against SamTrans while the agencies enter discussions mediated by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to address outstanding issues related to operating the extension. SamTrans agreed to pay BART $7.1 million of the $8.9 million it owes for operating costs; the remainder will be paid after an agreement is reached, according to a SamTrans statement.

The agencies plan to discuss a new, affordable service plan that would include service adjustments, ridership development and revenue generation.
