BART kicks off flooring replacement project in elevators

Beginning today, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) crews will begin cleaning and replacing flooring in the agency's 127 passenger elevators.

Work will be completed in stages during the week in both parking garages and stations, and will continue through December, BART officials said in a press release.

Elevators in BART's Pleasant Hill Parking Garage will be the first to receive new flooring.

The agency selected an aluminum diamond-plate flooring to replace existing material, which absorbs liquids and odors that can corrode underlying structures.

After removing the old flooring, technicians will clean, disinfect, and repair the entire elevator, including any areas under the floor that have been damaged by liquids, BART officials said.
