BART restructures communications functions

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has reorganized communication and spokesperson functions to “provide more transparent and precise information” about the agency’s operations, BART officials said in a prepared statement.
One manager and two communications officers now lead the restructured department. In addition, the agency is putting into effect a recommendation from the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives as part of its review of the BART Police Department to establish a media representative for that department, officials said.
Jim Allison and Luna Salaver will share the communication officer duties. Salaver, who is a public information officer on loan from Capital Corridor, will remain a part-time communication officer until the position is posted and filled, BART officials said.
Meanwhile, Linton Johnson has been appointed strategic program manager for external affairs. He will work with BART departments to “develop and implement large-scale communications strategies” for major programs, which include the planning and acquisition of a new rail-car fleet, BART officials said.
Johnson will be “dedicated fully to providing strategic support” for such major projects, they said.
