BART sets Sunday ridership record

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) posted record ridership for a Sunday on June 26, when 247,936 used the system to travel either to the city’s Pride Parade or the San Francisco Giants home game, BART officials said in a prepared statement.
BART prepared for the anticipated ridership hike by adding extra passenger cars for the day. The previous Sunday ridership record was set on June 28, 2008 — also a day that featured the Pride Parade and a Giants home game.
“When big events gridlock Bay Area freeways, people are confident to rely on BART, which means replacing our oldest-in-the-nation train cars is critically important,” BART Board President Bob Franklin said.
