Rail News: Passenger Rail
Bay Area Rapid Transit currently is testing a new parking management system at Oakland’s Rockridge Station.
"Smart" Parking features electronic sensors that transmit information about how many spaces are available in a section of the station’s east lot. Commuters can reserve a parking space from their computer or phone, and two temporary signs located along Highway 24 will show how many spaces are open.
The California Department of Transportation is sponsoring the research, which is being conducted by the University of California-Berkeley.
