The Bay Area Rapid Transit's (BART) board recently approved a ban on the use of electronic cigarettes and other "vaping" devices in the BART system. The board voted last week to update the agency's no-smoking policy to be consistent with similar bans in municipalities BART serves. Currently, e-cigarette use at BART is not regulated."A number of complaints have reached the board about people using electronic cigarettes and vaping devices on BART property," BART board member Robert Raburn said in a press release.A second reading of the ordinance must occur prior to the ban taking effect. The board will formally adopt the ordinance at its Feb. 12 meeting. New signs will be placed in BART stations and trains to inform riders of the new rule.Other transit agencies have taken similar actions, as Progressive Railroading reported in this web-exclusive article.
