BART to begin testing Oakland Airport Connector vehicles

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) officials are one step closer to launching service on the Oakland Airport Connector. The agency soon will begin operating the first of four test vehicles in Oakland, Calif., in preparation for the line's scheduled fall opening.

The 3.2-mile elevated guideway will run between BART's Coliseum Station and a new station located next to the terminals at Oakland International Airport.

The vehicles are being built in Oregon by DCC Doppelmayr Cable Car and shipped to the Bay Area for final assembly. All units are scheduled to be in testing by spring.

The $484 million project is on time and on budget, according to a BART press release.
