advertisement
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) plans to soon begin strengthening structures at the West Oakland Station to withstand earthquakes.
Part of its system-wide Earthquake Safety Program, BART will construct temporary enclosures, add steel and concrete to foundations, wrap columns with steel reinforcement, and protect utilities and equipment. The project will take about two years to complete.
The agency will be conducting similar work at various locations throughout its system during the next five years.
